Walk-A-Thon, Pune is the group of like minded peoples who are interested in trekking/walking.

In Pune there are many trekking groups and everyone who is interested in trekking is atleast part of one. This group was formed by such like minded people who are interested in trekking/walking. Yes! there are many walking events as well where many of group people participate. The few important ones that are Lonavala-Pune, Pune-Sinhgad Moonlight Walk every month, Pune-Alandi, Pune-Dehu etc.

The main intention for forming this group was to arrange treks which cannot be done alone and are better if done in a small group. Having small group ensures that the arrangements can be done easily. And one can enjoy it completely.

We meet Every 2nd Wednesday of each Month to plan the future events.

Ghangad & Tailbaila Trek

We had the Walk-A-Thon group meeting on 16th August 2013.  The trek that was finalized was "Ghangad & Tailbaila".  The trek date decided was 1st Sep 2013. Initially we were not sure if count will be more than 10.  But because of follow-up from everyone soon count was 24 and 3/4 to confirm.  We booked the 27 seat bus and stopped bookings. Saturday! Day before trek final head count was 22.  Two of them were not able to make it.

We planned to go via Lonavala which bus owner informed that we may not be allowed to travel via Lonavala.  So last minute it was decided that we will go via Mulshi.

Group for Ghangad & Tailbaila
Finally on Sunday morning!!!  Even if you plan in detail, there are always last minutes phone calls.  This time reason was miss communication from the Travel agency.  After lots of calling everything came to normal and bus started 20 minute late.

We started with first learning that we should take booking confirmation amount which will not be returned in case one opts out.  This was because earlier we were expecting bus to get completely full but lastly there were only 19 people who came.

Anyway, actual trek journey started from Sus Road. Everyone was got up early and now it was tea/breakfast time.  So it was decided to take a halt.  If we had entered any hotel surely we would have taken more than an hour.  But thanks to Anita, who last minute helped in getting the Hot Idali and Chatani.  We just took halt for Tea and headed ahead.

Outside beauty cannot be given here in words.  Everyone has already removed their cameras and started capturing the nature beauty.  Sky was clear and no signs of rains.  Now everyone was eager to start the trek.

Information
Finally we reached the base of Ghangad.  Clock was already ticking 11:00AM.  On-route we had to ensure that we are going on right path.  Not a single person and we are heading ahead.  Good there was no turns on the road, so we were bit sure that we are not heading wrong way.  We reached base of Ghangad.

Ghangad

After reaching we had to find someone who can guide us.  We asked in village, there seemed only old aged man who was busy doing some house hold work.  We requested him and after too much insisting from us he was ready to show us the route.

Now actual trek started.  Route was not much inclined.  But for beginners it was bit difficult.  After we climbed half there was a ladder (I will call it Ladder to heaven) which we had to climb to reach top.  Everyone climbed it but not as easily as the old man who was our guide.  Next route was little steep.  They have fixed some wires by holding which it was easy.  If those were not there I am sure at-least few of us would have opted out.  Finally we reached at top, a small plateau.  As the sky was clear, the view of all forts was very nice (cannot be described).  Especially the Tailbaila fort was simply like a big wall.

Ghangad View
From nowhere, suddenly clouds started gathering.  We had to use the same way for climbing down.  Normally only it was difficult, so in rains it would become more difficult. So we started immediately descending.  Not very difficult but nice experience was to get on the ladder.  It has to be experienced can't be explained in words.

After ladder then it was easy.  Soon we reached at base and half trek (Ghangad) was over.  There was a nice temple which could accommodate all of us, where we took our lunch.

TAILBAILA

Tailbaila - View is like Snake raising head
Post lunch, we headed towards Tailbaila. There were very few directions that too not clear.  We were also not sure if we could take our 16 seat bus to base.  Still we proceeded.  Finally we reached the village.  Few of us opted out.  We could not find anyone who could guide us.  After asking directions we proceeded.  Now were on our own.  But no guide required.  One can easily find the path.  We reached place where Tailbaila wall can be seen sideways.  It seemed like King Kobra standing with head raised.

Photographers!!!
Vidish, Shaunak and I were behind as we were more interested in photography.  Micro/Panorama those were the words used most that time.  Kelkar sir who has heading must be shouting on us.  When we felt no one around, every one forced each other to keep camera inside and complete the remaining trek fast.

We reached between two walls.  There were signs of Rock climbing path.  Bhave madam mentioned she has also done the rock climbing there.  I am sure it will be a courageous experience if one does rock climbing.  Now we decided to rush back as we had to return via Lonavala and we were expecting traffic.

We started our return journey via Lonavala.  On route everyone wanted to have a break to capture scenic beauty outside but it by majority it was decided that we will stop after crossing Lonavala.  As expected there was some traffic but only in last patch. Luckily there was no traffic near Bhushi dam.  After having tea we headed back to Pune.
